DocuWare Aktiengesellschaft, founded in 1988 as DOCUNET AG, is a pioneer in the field of electronic archival, which is one of the fastest growing markets in the EDP industry. Our idea was to facilitate the efficient management of all types of documents which are generated in daily business activities, to achieve the "paperless" electronic office through document management.

At first, they concentrated on developing a DACS board for scanner control and for compressing and decompressing graphic files. The incredibly fast improvement of computer performance at the beginning of the 1990's paved the way for the development of a range of software products, which are now sold under the commercial name of DocuWare.

The DocuWare product family has grown steadily around the flagship DocuWare product. The introduction of add-on modules (e.g. DocuWare AUTOINDEX, DocuWare COLD, etc.) supports and enhances the performance concept of original document management software. The newest additions to the family —like DocuWare SQLSERVER, DocuWare INTERNET SERVER or DocuWare CONNECT to R/3— emphasise that the functionality of our products follows market trends as well as customer requirements. Furthermore, the modular nature of the products allows our customers to create DocuWare-based solutions tailored to their needs.

Early on 1994, DocuWare AG realised that the complexity of electronic document management systems requires a network of highly trained dealers. Therefore, in 1994, DocuWare AG founded the DocuWare Training Centre —the first of its kind— for sales partners and users alike. Today, there are more than 111 DACs (DocuWare Application Consultants), 113 DSCs (DocuWare System Consultants), and a tightly woven network of Authorised DocuWare Partners.

In 1995, DocuWare AG initiated an aggressive expansion policy in international markets. Today, DocuWare products are sold in over 10 languages and are used in more than 4,500 corporations worldwide, thanks to a continuously growing number of international sales partners, as well as our subsidiaries in the United States (DocuWare Corporation, founded 2001) and United Kingdom (DocuWare UK).

By now DocuWare AG has 80 employees. The main office is in Germering, Germany (near Munich). DocuWare USA is located at Montgomery, NY and DocuWare UK offices are in London, GB. In 1999 the DocuWare Competence Centre Sofia in Sofia, Bulgaria was founded.
